Dear Paw Paw Lake Community Members,

Dear Paw Paw Lake Community Member,

Each year at this time we ask you for your financial support to further our mission… to improve the water quality of our lake. A healthy lake enhances our enjoyment and protects our property values. The Foundation is 100% funded by your donations that are critical in meeting our goal to continuously improve the quality of the water in Paw Paw Lake.

2024 saw several key improvement projects become reality… the largest being a purchase of a 77 acre farm adjacent to the drain that flows directly into our lake. The storm water runoff sediment from the farm was a major source of nutrient pollution into the drain. After the purchase, the Foundation was able to establish a natural grassland on the property that will filter out the harmful nutrients in the rainwater runoff before it enters the drain system and our lake. (Cost of the farm purchase and planting exceeded $600,000.)

The Foundation, in a joint effort with the Drain Commission and the Townships, funded the installation of a new overflow two-level drain system parallel to the existing drain that will trap nutrients before they enter the lake. (Cost of the Foundation contribution $8000.)

The Foundation co-funded an in-depth survey and professional analysis of the entire five miles of the two major drains that flow into our lake. The analysis report highlighted major areas with severe bank erosion causing high levels of nutrient-rich sediment to dump into the drain and then enter our lake. Bank erosion reduction will be one of our projects for 2025. (Survey cost $6000.)

Please support our important efforts with your donation to The Paw Paw Lake Foundation.

Thank you,

Mike Bond

President
